Acoustic Strings of New England is located in downtown Keene on West Street. This is a specialty store as its name implies, where you can purchase, rent or have repaired or restored violins, violas, cellos, basses, and guitars. The staff, including owner Chris Fox and manager Roni Byrne, is knowledgeable about stringed instruments and includes luthiers who are skilled in repair. Acoustic Strings caters to all levels of musicians, and enjoys an ongoing relationship with twenty schools in New England, including the Keene and Monadnock Waldorf schools.
The inventory is as varied as the musician. Thinking about learning an instrument or considering giving a gift? You have a couple of options. You can rent an instrument on a rent-to-own basis. Students in their first or second year of instruction can make an appointment to rent a step-up or professional grade instrument. There are used instruments for sale, checked over carefully and tested to ensure quality. Or you can buy a basic instrument – prices start at $125.00 – made in the store’s shop. Advanced students, semi-professional musicians and teachers purchase stringed instruments made in European shops from aged wood. Usually these instruments are then upgraded, set up and play-tested at Acoustic Strings. All workmanship is guaranteed and if you happen to have a mishap with your instrument, loaners are available while it is undergoing repairs or restoration.
Classical musicians are not the only consumers at Acoustic Strings. They carry all kinds of guitars, including electric, acoustic nylon, steel-string acoustic, acoustic-electric steel and nylon string. They also carry flutes, clarinets, alto and tenor saxophones, banjos and mandolins. Right now there are many instruments on sale, as well as strings, bows reeds, sheet music and other accessories at or below online prices. Payment plans are available.
Acoustic Strings has been serving the Monadock area since 2000. The store, located at 16 West Street, is open Tuesday – Thursday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm; Friday & Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Stop in and pay them a visit, check out their website, or give them a call at 603-354-7979.
