Jump and Shout is a collection of new blues music by Jim Murphy of the popular band, Murphy’s Blues. Jim describes the CD as “soulful”, explaining,“I wanted to create a CD that I am happy with and that I would like to listen to. If you can please yourself, that’s ultimately the job of an artist.”
Jump and Shout was recorded and mixed by Ben Rogers (who plays drums on the CD) at Loud Sun Studio in Jaffrey. All of the guitar and vocals, as well as some bass, harmonica and organ, are performed by Jim. Bill Symonds of Murphy’s Blues plays keyboards and Jeff Murphy plays bass for eight songs.
Going Down to Harlow’s is a fun song about going to the popular venue Harlow’s Pub. “I wanted to do a song about a specific place and I thought about Harlow’s. I play there with Murphy’s Blues and sometimes on a Friday I will think, ‘I want something to do, ahh, I will go to Harlow’s.’ And when I ride in the car I listen to WRSI’s Funky Friday show and then I get to Harlow’s and there’s people there I know.”
Currently there are three videos of songs on the CD, produced by David Teubner of Keene Online. “I thought videos would be fun to do and they were. I like acting,” he said with a grin. Here is a link to the video of So Much Rain. “I had a vision of how I wanted the video to look and David directed it,” Jim explained. ”It’s a blues song that doesn’t have typical blues lyrics.”
Jim hopes to do some shows in the future, but for now he has some ideas for more videos and will continue performing with Murphy’s Blues. On Saturday Murphy's Blues plays for the Hundred Nights Fourth Annual Masquerade Ball - a fundraiser for the Hundred Nights Shelter in Keene. The band has a full schedule of performances throughout the spring.
Jump and Shout is available locally at several shops, including Retro Music, Toadstool Bookstore, Turn It Up, The Dragonfly Shop, and Hannah Grimes. You can also get it on his website, JimMurphyMusic.com and through Amazon, iTunes and CD Baby.
