Chicago bluesman Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson will play Saturday night (January 10) at J.P. Stephens in Rindge. Backed by the Magic Rockers, featuring harpist Otis Doncaster, the 75 year old blues legend delivers crowd-pleasing performances around New England.
Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson has played with Magic Sam, Muddy Waters, Bobby Rush, and Sunnyland Slim. In 1982, he appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, where he performed “Walkin’ The Dog”. That recording became part of the compilation album Blues Explosion that included performances by Koko Taylor, John Hammond, and Stevie Ray Vaughn, among others. In 1985, Blues Explosion won the Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Recording. Here is a link to that award-winning performance.
The performance begins at 7:00. Reservations strongly encouraged, this show has sold out before.
