Pianist Cristian Budu performs in Hancock

One of the musical gems of the Monadock Region is the Music on Norway Pond Concert Series.  Founded by Jody Simpson in 2009, the concert series offers one hour performances at affordable prices, showcasing artists from the New England Conservatory in Boston, the Norway Pond Festival Singers, and artists from the region who offer original and often unforgettable performances.  (My personal favorite is last year’s performance of Bon Appetit! – a comic operetta where Mezzo-Soprano Vanessa Schukis takes on the character of Julia Child baking a cake!)

This weekend Music on Norway Pond hosts Cristian Budu, a gifted pianist from Brazil who is now a member of the New England Conservatory Artist Diploma program.  In 2013, Cristian Budu won the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland at the age of 25, an especially prestigious award where there is only one winner, and occasionally none.  While he has performed throughout the world, Cristian works to make music accessible to the sophisticated listener, as well as to those just beginning their path to music appreciation.  To that end, Cristian was the inspiration to the organization Groupmuse, an online networking organization that matches musicians to hosts of house concerts.  Begun in 2010, when Cristian began his own parties in Allston, MA, GroupMuse now organizes over 300 events a year throughout the United States.

Sunday’s performance will be held on Sunday at 4:00 at the Hancock Meeting House.  Tickets are $15 for the one hour performance, students are free – and encouraged to attend.  For more information about Music on Norway Pond and Sunday’s concert, visit the website.
