The Windham Orchestra begins its 45th Season this weekend on a celebratory note: the premier of Kinan Azmeh’s Flute Concerto, commissioned to commemorate Claremont’s 250th Anniversary! Claremont resident Melissa Richmond is the soloist. Also on the program is Mozart’s Symphony No. 31, Schubert’ Symphony No. 8, and Strauss’ Gypsy Baron Overture. There is a Friday evening performance at the Claremont Opera House and a performance at the Brattleboro Area Middle School. Both concerts are at 7:30; admission is by donation.

Kinan Azmeh is a clarinetist who has composed works for ensembles, orchestra, solo instrumental works, as well as for film and dance. He is a faculty member at Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music and has played for the Apple Hill Playing for Peace Program. Windham Orchestra is a community orchestra comprised of student, amateur and professional musicians under the direction of Hugh Keelan. The orchestra is actively seeking new members. There are four concerts from November through May – each concert features the premiere of a piece by a contemporary composer.
